The origin of the song's title may be Joan Crawford (playing the hedonistic Sadie Thompson) in the 1932 film Rain saying, "In the cool of the evening, I'll be there." The song was introduced in the 1951 movie Here Comes the Groom by Bing Crosby and Jane Wyman.
