Critics Corner
Stephen Holden reviewing singer-pianist Barbara Carroll, at Birdland, The New York Times, Jan. 20, 2015 "The elegant jazz pianist Barbara Carroll opened her show at Birdland on Saturday evening with a lightly swinging performance of Irving Berlin's "Let's Face The Music and Dance," a song that never loses its relevance as it seesaws between dread and exhuberance. From its opening phrase, 'There may be trouble ahead,' it addresses the age-old question: How is it possible to live happily in a world that often seems on the verge of collapse? The answer is the same today as it was in 1936: Whenever possible, live in the moment" (Read the full review NYTimes.com at NYTimes.com).
