Notes: The track on the music-video above is the track on which "My Sugar Is So Refined" was first introduced in 1946 by Mercer and The Pied Pipers accompanied by Paul Weston and His Orchestra, [on the 78 rpm Capitol 10" single #268] -- according to "nickthebottlewsher" (See "Visitor Comments" this page.)
Johnny Mercer, best known as a lyricist of classic American songs from the golden age of American popular song, otherwise known as The Great American Songbook, was also an accomplished professional singer. This Capitol Collectors Series album features twenty 1940s studio sessions on which Mercer performs songs such as "My Sugar is So Refined," with music by Sidney Lippman and words by Sylvia Dee, on which he is accompanied by The Pied Pipers and the Paul Weston Orchestra, as well as his own songs such as the swinging "On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe" and the dreamy "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)." As is demonstrated by "My Sugar Is So Refined," Mercer is "equally at home as an interpreter, as best revealed on an exuberant rendition of Johnny Burke and Jimmy Van Heusen's "Personality." Mercer's talent as a vocalist isn't so much underrated as it is relatively unknown, but this excellent collection provides ample evidence of his legacy as a recording artist." (from CD Universe Product Description.). Incidentally, Mercer was also sharp as a tack as a business man having been cofounder of Capitol Records. (Please complete or pause one
