7/2017, posted anonymously: "This song is attributed to being composed by Richard Rodgers when it was really composed by Chopin. I know that there weren't any copywrite laws when Chopin composed it but shouldn't Chopin have gotten any credit for his wonderful melody?"

Cafe Songbook replies: In a quick survey of the literature, much mention is made of the melody for the song "No Other Love" (from the score of the 1953 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Me and Juliet) having originally been written by Rodgers (with significant editing by arranger Richard Russell Bennett) for the episode "Under the Southern Cross." of the 1952 World War II TV documentary Victory at Sea. No mention of that melody having originally been composed by Chopin was found.

The mystery is, however, solved rather simply by Wikipedia which notes "The 1953 song "No Other Love" [by Rodgers and Hammerstein] should not be confused with "No Other Love", a song of 1950. The melody for the 1950 song was taken from Étude in E major, Op. 10, No. 3 by Frederic Chopin" and bears no connection to the song under discussion on this page.

Cafe Songbook would like to further note that song titles cannot be copyrighted. So there can be any number of songs with the same title. This is often a source of confusion.
